Founding Product Engineer
Latin America will spend this decade deciding whether it builds frontier AI capability or rents it. The region holds the energy, the minerals, the data, and the talent of 660 million people, and almost none of the compute, the models, or the governance leverage. Futuros exists to change that.
Futuros is the evidence platform for that argument: a live, cited, trilingual observatory of 25 countries built to put verifiable numbers in front of heads of state, CELAC, the IDB, CAF, ECLAC, and the private sector. Every claim on the platform resolves to a source, and the platform is in production today.
Platform in early access for partners and funders. We will walk you through it live during the process.
The role
The founding product engineer owns the surfaces: the atlas, the situation room, the markets terminal, the analyst chat. The people using them are presidents' advisors, ministry staff, and investment teams, and the bar is that a cited figure is always one click from its source and the whole thing feels fast on a mid-range phone.
What you'll do
- Own the platform surfaces. A React and TypeScript single-page app spanning country atlases, dashboards, comparison tools, and a retrieval-grounded chat, all data-forward and citation-first.
- Ship trilingual, everywhere. Spanish, English, and Portuguese are peers across UI, content, and metadata. Nothing user-visible ships in one language.
- Make it fast. Large datasets, choropleth maps, and dense chart grids that stay responsive on modest hardware and patchy connections, offline-first PWA included.
- Guard the design system. A precise typographic idiom: hairlines, mono accents, labeled axes, honest scales. Charts never bury the data or stretch the truth.
- Close the loop. Analytics, error tracking, and the feedback instrumentation that tells us what a ministry actually uses.
- Build with agents. Direct AI tooling to multiply your output, and help shape the interfaces the agent workforce itself uses.
What we're looking for
- Frontend depth. Staff-level TypeScript and React; you have shipped complex, data-dense products with consumer-grade polish.
- Taste for data interfaces. You know why an unlabeled axis is a lie and when a table beats a chart.
- Full-stack range. Comfortable across serverless APIs, build tooling, and performance work; you ship end to end.
- AI-native. Agents and models are part of how you build, and you can integrate them into product without hand-waving.
- Founding temperament. You are comfortable owning ambiguous problems with no one above you to escalate to.
Nice to have
- Working Spanish. Strongly preferred.
- Roots or deep working ties in Latin America.
- Dataviz depth: d3, Recharts, or hand-rolled SVG; cartography a plus.
- PWA and offline-first experience.
- A design background or a portfolio that shows one.
How this works
This is a founding conversation. We are open on compensation, equity, and scope for the right fit, and we come to the table with strong institutional backing. We will be transparent about terms from the first call and expect the same directness back.
